Kindle, Amazon's line of e-readers, has amassed quite a large following, and the online retail company has released a desktop version of the device for Mac OS X users. With the Kindle software, you can read books, magazines, and newspapers as well as play any audiobooks that you have bought on your Amazon account.

The program allows you to sample each title before you commit to a purchase. You can search within Kindle as well as customize your experience by exploring settings like title font style and size, margin size, line spacing, and background and highlight color. It also lets you stay connected with other readers via Goodreads, a social network for avid readers.

Other Systems

Kindle for Mac is also available on iPhone, Android, and Windows.
