Free the space occupied by unnecessary items under iTunes




Intro


Over time, various iTunes stores information on your computer (by default in the C drive) and sometimes it can take up to several GB. here is the detailed procedure to remove what is unnecessary.
What can you delete?
- Obsolete backups
- Former firmware that are no longer accepted by iTunes
For example, here occupied by the useless things in iTunes on my computer:

Procedure

  • Connect your iDevice to iTunes in order to have a recent backup.
  • Go to the C: drive>
    • Users (Windows Vista or 7, and in Documents and Settings in XP)>
    • [Your user name, in my case Olivier]>
    • Application Data> Apple Computer
  • in MobileSync \ Backup you will see a series of files containing a sequence of numbers, sort files by "modified" and then select the oldest files, press SHIFT and the DELETE button and press enter.

  • Removing unused firmware:
  • Go to the C: drive>
  • Users (Windows Vista or 7, and in Documents and Settings in XP)> Username > Application Data> Apple Computer> iTunes
  • You will see a series of folders containing firmware for iDevices.
  • Clean the unnecessary ones.
