Sharing your videos on the net

December 2016

Several sites on the web have video sharing functionalities. YouTube is a phenomenal website to share and enjoy videos on the internet. Fans can view videos for free and anyone can access them; however, to publish your videos on the internet you need to sign up and create an account. Videos are posted directly through your web browser via a plug-in Flash Player (the file format used is Flash Video or FLV). You can create your favorites and playlists to save them for viewing later. Google video is very well organized and simple to use; one may select the options from six headings. Other popular sites include Dailymotion, vsocial, ourmedia and eyespot.

Widespread internet broadband and the improvement of audio / video enabled the development of multiple video sharing sites on the web. Google, which does not do things halfway, has two such sites available.

YouTube

Faced with the global success of YouTube, Google did not hesitate to invest millions of dollars into this platform created by two American students. When you start to browse the site's catalog, you realize you cannot win, there are so many videos in there! YouTube is a veritable gold mine for fans of videos that can view millions of extracts, all categorised. Posting videos is done directly into a web browser via a plug-in Flash Player (the file format used is Flash Video or FLV).

It is not necessary to create a user account to view the video online. However, if you want to publish your own videos, you will inevitably pass through this formality. To access the site, http://www.youtube.com type it in the address bar of the web browser.

To create your account, there are two options:
  • If you already have a Google Account, click "Log in with your Google Account" under the "Login".
  • Otherwise, you can still register by clicking the link "Register".

Creating an account will not only publish videos on the platform, but also allow you to customize your library where you will be able to store your favorite clips.

The videos are sorted by categories. Click on "Videos" to access the library. The entries are visible on the left hand side of the window. Select the theme you want and browse the library. If a clip has particularly excited, shocked or disappointed you, you can add a comment beneath it and rate it.

With YouTube, you can create a selection of videos that you can go back to at any time. Under the window of the sequence is the "Playlists". Click it and then in the dropdown "Select Playlist", add the desired video to the playlist of your choice. If no playlist exists, create one by clicking on "[New Playlist].

If you have a website or blog, you can insert a video from YouTube on your pages. On the page with the video while viewing, you see the "Code". This contains the HTML code to paste into your site. By default, the window has a size of 425 points wide by 350 high. You can modify the code to suit your needs. In addition, by clicking on "Custom", you can change the colors of the reader that will appear on your web pages.

Google Video

In July 2006 the Google Video service was officially opened in France. Since then, its success has never flagged, despite the legal problems which the service. Google officials have had to make amends and reconsider their copies to protect the victims of abuse to which the site was involuntarily giving a platform for.

The interface is very stripped down, like all Google services. By default, the homepage offers you six headings:
