Free equivalent to ghost

Ghost (General hardware Oriented System Transfer) is a disk cloning software to make a back-up of images, applications, etc. so that you can restore your computer system to a running state quickly. If you want to make an image of your hard drive, save it to a file and roll out this image to many systems or just to back-up the system, then there are numerous ghost equivalent or cloning software available in the market for Windows and Linux. Organizations with multiple computer systems can use these cloning software to make the process of software provisioning and operating system easy. Other features of these software include compression of disk image files, data encryption and support for back-up from a network server.

Today there are several freeware / free to create / restore partitions image equivalent to the ghost software.
