Customize your business pages on social networks

For a business to be easily recognized by its customers and prospects, its visual identity must be identical on all the communications channels it uses. The benefits associated to social networks are now well proven. They are now part of the communication strategy of many companies.
  • Certain rules must be applied on social networks to keep a design consistency over all communications channels.
  • Each social network has its own limitations , such as the type of code to be used and the dimensions of the graphic elements.


Facebook is one of the most popular social networks and since March 2012, the "Timeline" feature is open to businesses.
  • The graphic elements to be taken in consideration are:
    • The profile photo (or avatar): 180 x 180 pixels to be compressed to 160 x 160 pixels.
    • The cover photo: 851 x 315 pixels

You can be more creative in combining the cover and the profile photo into a single one! In the example below, the profile photo is 23 pixels to the right of the left edge of the cover photo and 210 pixels from the top.

You can also optimize images for applications. The image will be displayed with the following dimensions: 74 pixels (height) x 111 pixels (width).


On the micro-blogging site, you can customize two elements:
  • The profile photo
  • The background of your account

For the profile picture, use the following dimensions: 200 x 200 pixels, resized to 128 x 128. You can make use of same profile picture for both Facebook and Twitter (200 x 200). Note that: certain elements of the image may not be visible after resizing.

For the background, the requested image dimension is 2000 x 1200 pixels. You also add the URL of your website, Facebook profile, YouTube channel...etc in the left column. It is important to note that the links are not clickable yet.

Google +

Google's social network is one of the most recent ones (June 2011) and yet the dimensions of the graphics have changed several times.
  • The graphic elements to be taken in consideration are:
    • A profile picture: 250 x 250 pixels
    • A cover photo two possibilities:

- 5 images (112 x 112 pixels each)
- A single image (940 x 180 pixels)


Pinterest is increasingly being used by companies. There are 4 graphic elements to be taken in consideration:
  • As on all networks, you'll need a profile picture (160 x 160 pixels). For the other pinned images, the maximum width is 600 pixels, but there's no limitation for the height.
  • In your boards, the main image will be 222 x 150 pixels and other ones will be 55 x 55 pixels.


On Youtube, two elements are customizable: the avatar and the banner at the top. The avatar will be displayed on each video you publish. The maximum size accepted by Youtube is 1600 x 1600 pixels. You should however be aware that the avatar will be reduced to 36 x 36 pixels.

As for the banner, the width is limited to 970 pixels, as for the height, you can choose between 0 and 150 pixels. Note that, a space of 20 pixels will be reserved by Youtube.


On Dailymotion, all members can customize their avatar, which will be present at each video posted. The dimensions are: 160 x 160 pixels. The background is customizable for two categories of users: MotionMaker and Officials Users.
