Windows Media Player - Stream your multimedia content on your Smart TV

Your PC and Smart TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network? Here's a simple trick to display the multimedia content stored on your PC directly on your TV screen.

Windows Media Player 12 installed by default on Windows 7 and 8, allows you to stream multimedia content stored on your PC, directly on your Smart TV. With this functionality, you won't need cables or additional hardware. The only condition is that both devices are connected to the same WiFi network.

Procedure:
  • Run the Windows Media Player
  • Open the appropriate Library (music, pictures or videos), depending on the type of media you want to play
  • Right click on the file you want to play and select "Play to" > "Choose your Smart TV"
  • On your Smart TV screen a dialog box appears asking you permission for your PC to access the TV. Allows access and your content will be displayed.
