Legal information, TOS and contact form are crucial elements to take into account when writing the specifications a website. But how are they useful and how to add them to your website?

The Legal information


E-shops, editorial websites, websites offering paid services or processing identification data (e.g e-mail) are legally subject to display legal information or notices. These information should be available on a separate page of the website. Theoretically, failure to all or part of the legal obligations is punishable by a fine..

For an individual editing a professional website:


The mandatory information to be made available to the public:
  • Full name.
  • Address.
  • telephone number.
  • Registration number in the Registry of Commerce..etc.
  • Name of the director or co-director and if applicable, the person responsible for writing (for websites publishing an editorial content).
  • Business name and address.
  • Contact information for the hosting service.

For a company publishing a professional website


The mandatory information to be made ??available to the public:
  • Business or company name,
  • Main Office (and address)
  • Telephone number,
  • Telephone number.
  • Registration number in the Registry of Commerce..etc.
  • Name of the director or co-director and if applicable, the person responsible for writing (for websites publishing an editorial content).

How to include the legal information in your website

  • The Legal information are generally accessible from the navigation menu of the homepage of the website (next to the link to the contact form). They can be:
  • presented in a web page as HTML page or a PDF file.
  • These are sometimes embedded in a page gathering other information as the overall "terms of use", especially for sites requiring authentication.
  • The TOS contains various information relating to the operation of the website:
    • Access to the service (using ID/password)
    • Intellectual property (copyright)

Here are some tips to integrate a contact form in your website
  • Integrate multiple information fields to the form to enrich your prospects database: name, e-mail, phone.
  • Choose wisely the fields to be displayed in the contact form (provide optional fiels where required).
  • Submit a dialog box may contain up to 200 words, with clear instructions
  • Indicate a response time
  • Integrate a Captcha for manual validation of each message, which considerably limits the risk of spam.
  • You can make use of Google Analytics to track visitor statistics for the contact form (keywords used, bounce rate, geographic area, etc..).
