ActiveSync and Windows Vista

A mobile device or PDA when synchronized with Windows Vista enables the transfer of data and files from a computer to phones seamlessly. This is possible throughActiveSync but this is no longer available with Windows Vista and alternatively, one can use the Windows Mobile Device Centre of which recent version 6.1 has been launched. This is beneficial in synchronization of emails, managing video and music, picture contents and transfer of business files. One should however check the system requirements before downloading and installing this driver.

Synchronizing a mobile device or PDA with Windows Vista is easy through ActiveSync/ Windows Mobile Device Centre and guarantees a hassle free transfer of data and files from your computer to your phone and vice versa.

Note: ActiveSync is no longer present under Windows Vista, the only solution is to use Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1.

Main features of Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1

Windows has recently launched a new version of Windows Mobile Device Centre that allows you to:
  • Manage and synchronize your content, including music, picture and video files with your operating system.
  • Synchronize your personal or business emails, contacts and appointment calendar as well as transferring your business files from your phone to your computer.

System Requirements

Before you start to download Windows Mobile Device Centre 6.1, ensure that you have the right system requirements:

For Windows

You should be running one of the following:
  • Windows Vista Ultimate
  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Windows Vista Server "Longhorn"

For your mobile Device

You should be running one of the following:
  • Windows Mobile 2003
  • Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition
  • Windows Mobile 5.0
  • Windows Mobile 5.0 with Messaging and Security Feature Pack
  • Windows Mobile 6
  • Windows Embedded CE 6.0

Download and Install Windows Mobile Device Centre

  • 1. Download the Windows Mobile Device Centre from this link:
  • 2. Connect your mobile device to your computer using the USB cable provided
  • 3. When the download is done, select the option "Run this program from its current location" and click on OK.
  • 4. The instructions displayed on screen will guide you through the rest of the set up.
