Windows 8.1: Error code 0xc0000135

Issue


During the installation of Windows 8.1, the following error message is displayed: "0xc0000135"

Solution



Run the System File Checker

  • The first thing is to check your system for corrupt files, as they can cause the installation to fail.
  • Open a command prompt as administrator:
    • On the Startscreen, type "cmd" > right-click > Run as Administrator.
  • Type the following command: sfc/scannow
  • Press Enter to validate

Repair the Windows 8 Image

  • If the Windows image is corrupted, you can make use of the Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management tool to repair it.
  • Open a command prompt as administrator:
    • On the Startscreen, type "cmd" > right-click > Run as Administrator.

Enter the following commands:
  • To check if the image is corrupted:
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
  • To check if the image can be repaired:
    • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
  • To repair the Windows image:
    • Dism /Image:C:\offline /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
