Windows - Error message: You have been logged in with a temporary profile



Error message


When you log-in to your user account, the following error message is displayed: You have been logged in with a temporary profile

Solution


This error message is displayed when the user profile has been accidentally deleted from the system.
To fix this error:
  • Log on with an administrator account.
  • Save the data of the missing user profile (if it is still available) and then delete it.
  • The data is located here: %SystemDrive%\Users\{username}
  • Click on Start > Run > Type "Regedit" and hit the Enter key.
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList.
  • Delete the user profile ending with the .bak extension.
  • Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows.
