Change Facebook video quality settings: permanently, 2023

If your Facebook videos are taking too much time to buffer or your streaming quality is poor, this may be due to a slow internet connection. You can configure Facebook to stream videos in SD only (Standard Definition) format.

Why are Facebook videos blurry?

Behind YouTube, Facebook is one of the most popular video hosting platforms on the web. Many content creators upload their videos directly to Facebook (and Instagram) to interact with a large audience. However, one of the main issues with this, is that the quality of the videos that are uploaded to Facebook is typically lower than that of YouTube. There are a few reasons for this:

  • Facebook compresses videos into a resolution that can be viewed comfortably based on the quality of your internet connection
  • Not all video compression algorithms are compatible with the formats used by Facebook.
  • It takes longer to upload HD-quality videos.
