Turn Off Windows 8 Desktop Gadgets

If you rarely or never use the desktop gadgets on Windows 8, then you may consider turning them off. Here's a simple procedure that can be performed via the Group Policy Editor.

Remove Desktop Gadgets on Windows 8

Open the Run menu, type
gpedit.msc
and press Enter.

Next, click on Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Desktop Gadgets.

You can either choose to Turn Off user-installed desktop gadgets or Turn off desktop gadgets (All gadgets). Double-click on the entry of your choice and select Enable:
