I am living in Southeast Asia and have recently bought a gaming PC for the operation of
Microsoft Flightsimulator FSX. I gave instructions to the shop to install a legal Win10 but noticed now that it is an illegal copy. According to internet infos it is possible to legalize it, but how can I install the legal Win 10 and at the same time avoid loosing data of my FSX ?

Many thanks for your help
Best regards

Alfred

Hi Fred,

Living in two different countries, you have the gift of ubiquity.

Concerning your issue, you have a choice, wait for your computer system to be completely disabled or purchase a licence.

As for FSX, which I used to have, it was possible for me to save all of my addons on a USB key (landscapes, aircraft, airports, etc.) all of them in from different FSX folders. Easy as apple pie to transfer back to the programme.

The decision is yours

Hi Ambucias,

...living in two countries...oh...that is the result of having been an airliner for 31 years........

I am aware of saving FSX files, but reinstalling so many payware airplanes and payware sceneries is extremely time consuming. But the biggest issue is the registering of the sceneries into the FSX scenery library. This might take me another week to complete.....
Because all these addons cannot simply be reinserted into the programm they have to be reinstalled! one by one..

So my question is: Does the legalizing of an illegal Win10 - by installing the legal one - erasing all the files and programmes on C\ of the PC or does it leave them untouched?

Best regards

South East Asia? Your profile says Switzerland. What's up?

You must purchase the Windows 10 licence and register it, if you don't Microsoft will shutdown your entire system and that's a promise.

If you lose FSX, it should be easy for you to reinstall it.

Good luck

Hi, Ambucias,

I live both in Switzerland and in an Southeastasian country.
thanks for your immediate reply. Yes, it's true, I can reinstall FSX. The problem is, I have installed so many addons and it will give me a hell of work to reinstall the entire FSX. Therefore I still try to find a way not to loose it.

Best regards

Since you Windows 10 is already installed your will not have to reinstall it again.

You just need to activate your present copy.

Here is all that you need to know about Win10 validation

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/activate-windows-10-c39005d4-95ee-b91e-b399-2820fda32227

When you check the validation status you should get an offer to purchase the licence.
