F2400 won't scan

I have an F2400 which refuses to scan. I get a message telling me that another program is using it, when that is SIMPLY NOT TRUE. I've tried shutting it down, restarting, etc, etc, but it simply REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING.

WHY IS THIS? BEFORE I TAKE IT OUTSIDE AND SMASH IT, THEN TELL EVERYONE ON FACEBOOK TO AVOID YOUR USELESS PRODUCTS, I NEED SOMEONE TO EXPLAIN WHY THIS USELESS THING HAS BEEN MADE THIS WAY.
