Old iPod 5 isn't connecting to iTunes

Hello,

I have an ipod 5 that has been dead for several years. When I plugged it in it had the Apple logo, but that was it. After holding the power and home button down for ten seconds it told me to plug it into itunes. I did, but nothing happened, and nothing popped up, and it won't work. What do i do?

Does your ITUNES see it when you open the software?
