Black screens with multiple monitor setup

Hello,
I used to play movies and games on my 42 plasma from my Toshiba vista 64 edition laptop. Recently whenever i plug the laptop into the TV via hdmi ports both screens go black and i cannot do anything. any help would be appreciated.

Dear Sir,

Please use the keyboard FN combination key to switch monitor,

Before you shutdown the laptop you should switch the display to your laptop

the keyboard function key does not work. Iv read a few other posts with problems similar to this and tried everything aside from reinstalling my driveers i would rather not have to do that if possible.
