have speakers but no sound; drivers maybe?Solved/Closed

Hello,
I have just recently installed Windows XP Pro again in order to wipe my hard drive because of a bad virus. Everything is working fine except for my sound. For some reason the computer doesn't detect, respond to, or work with my speakers some how. I think it might have something to do with drivers but I'm not sure. My speakers are "Multimedia Speaker System" just some run of the mill computer speakers. If anyone has any idea why this could be happening please help.

The fine way to get ur drivers : go to http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=uk&cs=endhs1&l=en&s=dhs

Click Enter a tag. (If u don't know ur Service tag click How do I find my srvice tag ?)
Enter ur Service Tag, then click Go.

Hello,

When u install (or re-install) ur OS u have to install ur Audio card again.

U'll find the pilot for that on the MB CD if u have yet it.
Otherwise u have to download this pilot from the Web site of the PC maker. Or from the Web site of of the MB maker if the PC is a no-name one.

what operating system are you running from also if you highlight my computer go on to properites then hardware then device manager then look if somthing is alerted which usually has a yellow warning sign next to it

hey, guys. there are a prb to me. when i'm instaling sound driver ( I downloaded it from net) there some probs, during the instalation. it appeared a talbe with announce that this driver isn't pass testing xp logo, or the driver is not compatibility with xp. I don't know what to do... how I know why my windows not allowed to install it?

I have had the same problem as many posting here (no audio ever since reinstalling my OS) so I gave the Driver Detective (link provided in previous post) a try.  While the application is handy, frankly I found it a waste of money.  I guess it's nice that it tells you which devices have no drivers or those that are out of date, but the downloads they provided for me were not even compatible with my computer or OS, so they were useless.  Next, I went to the support site for my computer manufacturer (Dell, in my case), clicked on the "Drivers" link, and it walked me through the process of downloading the needed drivers to restore my audio (it has every major category of drivers broken down for you).  It even helps you determine which drivers are specifically compatible to your model of computer.  My audio works great now!  I only wish I now had my 30 bucks back from Driver Detective.

Its not really an answer but the same thing happened to me yesterday, for the same reason.

 I've been told I need a new driver for the sound card. 

Problem is while looking I've discovered that its going to cost at least £20. 
What LOOKS like 'free download' means free 'driver detective' download, the actual driver costs money in every case.
Anybody know different??
