Problems getting RAW files to open in PS

Hello,
I had to reinstall PS on my Mac due to several problems, but one problem has not been resolved. When I attempt to open a RAW file from iPhoto or the desktop or Bridge or anywhere, I get a window saying PS does not recognize this type of file. I have the right boxes checked in both Ps and iPhoto preferences, to no avail. Help!

Hi and thanks for the input. BUT . . . I want to edit the files as RAW files; I do not want to convert them until I edit them in their RAW format.
