Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1140ek Entertainment NotebookPC laptop and using Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32.
My problem is that when I want to open the user guides on the help and support window, It doesn't open although I install The HP user guides 0102 . And an error message appears and says: "this program is nat installed. Some programs may not be included with your HP Notebook PC." and even I can see the user guides files on program files.
Remembering that I had been using Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premuim when I bought my laptop and the user guides was working properly when I open it. then I change it with vista ultimate.
So can you tell me How can I solve the problem of opening user guides in my lap top?
I would be grateful if you could help me and thank you in advance Regards.

Hi !
I'm back !
A good friend of us within CCM/kioskea, Spe2d, suggests you could have a look to this (HP D/L) :

...
I don't know if this could help but, why not to ask first your Windows Update to download the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) package now, if not there yet !
Regards.

So, you keep getting the same error message (as reported in your thread) , do you ?
Two more questions :
- What SP level of Vista Home Premium did you leave for Ultimate ?
- What level of SP, if any, have you got with your retail Vista Ultimate ?
Regards

I'm back again...
You could ask the HP support desk if it would help to uninstall (and how : I see you tried that, but I don't know the right way to do it) the package you DL with sp41981.exe.
If you may uninstall, knowing how to do it, you could then download in sequence (1) sp41663.exe, (2) sp41981.exe (again) and then (3) sp44304.exe ... Ask HP desk first !
- Descriptions :
(1) : "HP Active Support Library" (File name: sp41663.exe, (1/1 , 12.58M)
(2) : "HP Help and Support for Microsoft Windows Vista" (File name: sp41981.exe, (1/1 , 10.57M)
(3) : "HP Support Assistant" (File name: sp44304.exe, (1/1 , 18.35M)
- URL's :
(1) : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-69381-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3826236&os=2093&lang=en
(2) : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-68874-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3826236
(3) : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-73575-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3826236

Crossing fingers !!!

PS : what is the SP level of your Ultimate ?

I'm sorry for you...
Did you then (i.e afterwards) try to uninstall and reinstall the HP user guides 0102 ?
It would probably be safer to provide your HP help desk with the detailed chronology of the events.

It would probably be safer to provide your HP help desk with the detailed chronology of the events.

Also, check again if you took all the precautions before updating to Vista Service Pack 2 : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01717268&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_us/c01717268/loc:1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3826236&lang=en.
To be honest, I don't really know if that warning is relevant to your migration, but you could have missed something while stepping from Home Premium SP1 to Ultimate SP2.
Check again with the HP help desk.

Cheers.

What is the current version of your User Guide 0102 ?
Could you ask your HP Help Desk if it would help to :
1. uninstall your version safely
2. possibly clean some register keys (?)
3. install the latest vn of 102 ( I found v 1.0.505 for siClient via this URL :
https://hp-user-guides-0102.software.informer.com/ )
Also, ask the Desk in which mode those steps should be accomplished (what about UAC etc.).
Cheers.

When I try to download it from this URL :https://hp-user-guides-0102.software.informer.com/
they redirect me to (www.hp.com) so I don't find where to download it. can you give me a direct link??
PS: the version that I have is ( v 1.0.50.0.125)

Hi,
I think you tried to download 0102 by using the button "Download HP User Guides 0102", from the leftside of the main window but you also have in the rightside a button named "Download | 709Kb".
Ask HP desk if you may download that version v 1.0.505b (siClient) : the binary installation file is named siinst.exe and is called from http://files.informer.com : I don't know if you are in the siClient category.
Cheers.

SiClient is not the 0102 Users Guide you are looking for but it could help you to solve your problem, just in case you can't collect the right information via the usual channel (HP and MS forums) ; have a look here :
https://software.informer.com/ and thus https://system-utilities.software.informer.com/
... lots of HP Tools are listed.
Cheers

One more think :
in your post #13 you wrote :

they redirect me to (www.hp.com) so I don't find where to download it. can you give me a direct link??
I think you forgot, prior to downloading, to select the version in the little window on the top right : try again !!!

You should forward that information (#13) to the HP desk.

Nevertheless, I'm a bit dubious about the way you jumped from Home Premium SP1 to Ultimate SP2.

I think that you should have upgraded from SP1 to SP2, within Home Premium, prior to installing Ultimate.
Read this :

5. Update your PC with Vista Service Pack 2
    *
You must install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 before installing Windows Anytime Upgrade with Service Pack 2. To ensure you have SP2 installed, please click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Update, select Check for updates, and install available updates. For more information, see Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2.

which is copied-pasted from
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

Best regards.

I think there is a misundersatnding of the way I upgraded my operating system:
1- I was having vista home premium sp1
2-I upgraded it to vista ultimate sp1
3-then ugraded from vista ultimate sp1 to sp2

So is there any solution or no??

Yes, there was a misunderstanding : this info (#15) wasn't obvious ;( refer to my questions in #6 and to your reply in #8 )

Do you remember having faced the Users Guide problem while running Ultimate SP1 ?
If reporting to the HP desk, tell them exactly what was happening, in the right sequence of the events !

I suppose there was a notice coming with the Ultimate package you installed : if there was no warning, you are entitled to have a system running fine, Users Guide included ! But it's better to ask HP first what's to be done AND to provide them first with a detailed thread.

Cheers.

Hi !
No news = good news ???
Probably not.

Read this :

What is not working on your laptop after your upgrade from Vista Home SP1 to Vista Ultimate SP1 is The HP Help and Support utility.
The HP Help and Support utility allows you to view your HP System Information, e.a.
If the Help & Support utility does not work properly or doesn't work at all, you should download and install the latest version of HP Help & Support utility from the www.hp.com/go/helpandsupport web page. The default Microsoft Help & Support does not offer this function.
You should know your Notebook Product number, Model Number, Serial Number.

As I already said, ask HP Help Desk some support or advise prior to download the HP Help and Support utility from the http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/ web page.

Cheers ! ;-)
