Carnt install xp on my hp dm3 windows 7 64bit

i brought a new laptop not long ago hp dm3 pavillion has window's 7 64bit installed im trying to install windows xp sp3 because i carnt use windows 7 for somethings i need to use it comes up with carnt install because its older than the version installed and wont let me is it not possible to install xp on this laptop?

Have you tried booting the pc from the xp cd-rom ?
Running the installation through windows 7's own environment is possible to cause this reaction.
