I'm trying to find a secure way of connecting multiple PCs using LAN cables, but I'm trying to avoid using a wireless router, because I'm concerned that even if I put a password on my network people might still be able to hack into it.

What would I need?

Also, what is a hub? I've been reading a lot quite a few posts about connecting 2 PCs with a LAN cable and a hub, but I don't know what a hub is. What's the difference between a hub and a router?

is there such a thing as a wired/non-wireless router?

Pardon my total noobness.

You can just get a wired Ethernet router (no wireless) to set up a simple network that connects those computers together. This is quite common setup and you can take a look on this wired home network setup example to have more ideas.
