Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2/ XBOX 360 Prob

Hey Guys, my brother and i just got our xbox 360 and we both signed up for our 1month free access i show up as a "silver" member while he shows up as a "gold" member. But it says on both of ours that we are connected to xbox live. However, when i try and play cod6 live it tells me that my profile cannot access xbox live...any help would be great!

your account will have to have gold access to play any multiplayer games. silver just lets you add friends, send messages and be able to purchase items throught the marketplace.
