AVG 8.5 failed uninstall

Hello,

I have failed to uninstall AVG free 8.5. Having failed to uninstall manually, I followed a suggestion to download a newer version of AVG and then select the uninstall option but when I tried this "Installation Failed" message appears and I am unable to go any further.
I have tried to download removal tools for AVG but the downloads fail. Can anyone help please?
(As I'm a Virgin customer I'm trying to set up their security but that is failing due to AVG conflicting)

You can try to install AVG 8.5 (if you can find a copy) and then remove it. Sometimes this works when all else fails.
