You can run GTA IV on a single-core cpu, but the game will be slow.

Hi, I recently just installed IV and my graphics card is a Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 X2 2GB, processer is an AMD Phenom II X4 940.. Though i'm still lagging quite a bit. My friend said the possible reason is that GTAIV doesn't support 2 cores on the graphics card only 1. Is this the case? Or is this something I can fix? If you need more info let me know please.

P4 is ok but u need minimum Nvidia Getforce of 512MB video card and u have only of 128Mb so it might not work and one other think u need XP sp3 for that u have to download or buy CD of XP SP3 that will update ur system no need to for mat and all.

Didn't find the answer you are looking for?

Ask a question
I could play GTA IV on a P4 socket 478 3.0GHz CPU with 1GB of PC2100 DDR RAM and a HIS HD4670 1GB AGP Video Card, oddly enough after upgrading to 2GB of PC3200 DDR RAM I now experience game freezes or lockups often, it was better with 1GB of RAM.

Statistics
Average FPS: 10.72
Duration: 25.46 sec
CPU Usage: 92%
System memory usage: 97%
Video memory usage: 92%

Graphics Settings
Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filter Quality: Highest
View Distance: 1
Detail Distance: 51

Hardware
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 3
Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series
Video Driver version: 6.14.10.6962
Audio Adapter: Realtek AC97 Audio
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz

gta4 will not run on a 1.6GHz dual core pentium, even if it did it will run like a slideshow. Also, i assume that if you have a pentium dual core, you probably have integrated graphics, so i'm afraid it's a resounding 'no' :( my desktop has a 2.9GHz athlon X2 and a OC'd HD4670 and that only still reaches 20-30 outside (cpu bottleneck ofc).

A Pentium 4 is just too slow - the official min CPU is a core 2 duo

The PC version of GTA 4 has CPU power for breakfast - independent on clock speed, L2 cache or number of cores. The latter ones are very important, because without quad-core power GTA 4 is noticeably less enjoyable. For example: A Q6600 is about 52 percent faster than the dual-core E6600 when both CPUs are running at 2.4 GHz. If the clock speed is increased, the difference gets smaller, but is still huge and a QX6850 is 47 percent faster than an E6850. Dual-core processors have a serious disadvantage and only with 3.6 GHz an E8500 is able to beat the Q6600, but GTA 4 nevertheless suffers from frequent lags on dual-core systems - no matter if an AMD or Intel CPU is used. The Phenom X4 9950 easily passes the Q6600 and theoretically is on the same level as the Q6700 (not included in the benchmark).

I thnkk pc gamers are being punished by companies under fire by politics with aim to destroy gaming outside of the original programming i.e. discourage people from enjoying easily moddable games, make more games harder to mod, and gain profit from minimizing cost through half assed progaming by rushing developers into releasing products too early. Welcome to hell but its ok most of you are too young to remember good gaming industry as it was raped some time ago.

How can you lose the key when its printed on a manual? besides if you have really lost it, you need to contact Rockstar and provide proof of purchase etc and if your lucky they will tell you the key.

sorry but the specs they list as the reccomended are a joke, even a Nvidia 8600 is to poor a card to play GTA4 a 8800GT would be the MINIMUM card to make it playable above everything on LOW at 800x600...lol

GTA 4 requires a really good CPU I have google it and found out that it is not much of a difference between 9600 GT and 9800 GT but by changing the cpu from dual core to quad core it produces much better results
