Greetings,
Reformatting the flash drive may help the DVD player recognize it but, lets face it sometimes hardware just isn't compatible with another. Do you have other flash drives? Try to plug them and see if the problem persists, if not, look at you owners manually for the DVD player and see types of usb devices it can support.
