Hello,

I accidently deleted the messages icon on my iphone and need to get it back, I think if I restore to factory settings it comes back.. but if I do that will I loose all my downloaded apps? please help :-/

I am an iPhone 4 user, you can solve your problem as below:

go to Settings on the iPhone.
Go to General.
Go to Reset.
Then go to Reset Home Screen Layout and the app will reappear.
The software is still in the phone just the icon was deleted.
