Laptop switches on but screen remains blankClosed

Hello, 



Yesterday my laptop screen was refusing to light up when i switched the laptop on. i then removed the battery and switched my laptop on and the switch lit up perfectly. Now today in the morning i switched the laptop on and the problem repeats again.i have removed the battery a number of times and the laptop screen is refusing to light up. Pliz help me anyone if there is anyway of solving this problem as my laptop has my masters thesis and other importnant stuff for my Masters. thanx in advance. by the way my laptop is a Gateway Laptop NV53

i am new on here mate, try connecting a vga cable to laptop and monitor to see if you can use quickly to recover your thesis,  or at least just see if the problem is screen only,then just go from there

Hello

Jon has a good suggestion, however, try this:

Remove the battery and cable.
Press and hold the power button for 57 seconds, no less.
Put the charged battery back and boot.
