HDMI cable selectively working?

Hello,

So I have a brand new Vizio LED tv, and a semi- new Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have been using my laptop as a DVD player as well as taking advantage of a much larger screen and using it for web surfing, games, etc. As recently as this afternoon the HDMI cable was functioning perfectly.

Now however, its only playing sounds <i>selectively</i>. When I go to 'configure settings' it tests/configures well...I can hear the example sounds played. I can also hear other Windows sounds; e.g. closing window sound, pings and dings of that nature. I CANNOT hear any music played or any kind of movie audio or voice track. When I disconnect the cable, I can hear everything. What is going on and how do I fix it?
