Hi Krisanne,
I would like to know if you are trying to restore the computer to factory settings or you have already done that. Regarding the Windows update, is there any error message available when you are trying to run Windows update?

i have already reset it to factory settings and it is showing many error messages, latest one being... windows failed to update80240016

As per the Microsoft KB Article:
"Windows Update error 80240016 typically means that another installation is in progress."
Please check the below mentioned link for more details:

Open this page using Microsoft Internet Explorer and try running the fixit provided on the website.
Do reply with results.
