Hi All,

My External hard disk is not opening. At first, it seeks a format. But, after trying to format it says, windows failed to format.

The error at the event viewer is as follows:
err1: The device, \Device\Harddisk2\DR2, has a bad block
err2: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.

After googling with the problem, I found a suggestion to apply the command "chkdsk x: /f". While running the "chkdsk" command, at the 3 of 3 stage (CHKDSK is verifying the security descriptors) it shows one line consecutively and that is
"Correcting errors in the volume Bitmap" -
................................................................
................................................................
"Correcting errors in the volume Bitmap"

The scenario at the disk management is:
1. Disk is "Online"
2. Type "RAW"
3. Active and Healthy

I don't need the data. I just want to get the HDD alive. Please advice what can I do.

Hello,

Try this 1

Transcend provides the format utility. You need to check your manufacture's

website to see if such utility is available for your External drive.

Click on the below hyperlink "Transcend" and follow the instructions.

Transcend

Scroll down and select your external hard drive by following onscreen instructions

by selecting your product family, product line, product sub-type etc.

Then click on "Software" and download the utility.

Good Luck
