Select PORTABLE office Excel as a default program to open a fileClosed

Question

Hi,

I have Portable Office (excel & word) in "C/Program files" of my laptop. I also have a *.xls file in my desktop. I'm trying to choose a default program(portable excel) to open always that kind of file *.xls.   When doing this process, it never allows me to select excel portable.  Must be a way!!!

Hello,
If you right click on your file, you can choose the option "Open With". Then, you will have an option "Browse", "Choose default program", or something like that.

All process carried out:  "Open With", "Browse", "Choose default program" I select Excel.exe from "C:\Program Files\Portable Microsoft Office 2007 (Word & Excel Only) v4" and then doesn't show up as a program to be selected.
I must remember that Excel portable is not a installable program. You simply launch the application (excel) and it works, really quick!

-> It's ok. In the link I've sent you above, the example is made with Sumatra PDF, a portable application too.

The version is windows 7 ultimate (64) . I even tried to open the file from excel.exe, then add a new cell or new data and "save", and nothing, still doesn't want to attach this file to excel.exe

It is curious, because the example in the above link is made on seven...
Try with an another software to check all the steps....

Even after following all the steps, the selected portable app doesn't show in list of programs after browsing the correct file. If it doesn't show up in the list of programs, then I can't select and it won't be set as default program. Need help.............
