Advise on the selection of a free antivirus software

For years I have used AVG's free version and been quite satified. I recently got a message that my 2013 download had expired and the only option I have been able to access is a paid version. I am interest you other free antivirus software that have preformed well in providing protection for computers.

Are you absolutely sure of the sender's address. Most people have used AVG for years.
