Error loading operating system

hi due to some reason, on start-up mycomp does,nt detect the HD, it shows and error "Error loading operating system" can't go any further, i dont want to reinstall as i will loose the settings, i think its the BIOS thats responsible, anyways! need help in solving this prob,

It could be a number of factors.First make sure its got power and that the cable is pluged in. If its an old motherboard and you might be installing a 1TB hardrive and it will not see it. Did you go into the Cmos and see if its showing up in there? You need to tell us more info before anyone can help you. eg. HDD size and brand ,motherboard type/brand ,ram brand and size ,CPU type and size .

I have same problem it always shows "error loading operating system" and cant go further more. it has 3gb ram, 320HDD, intel core 2 duo processor T6500 (2.1 GHz, 800MHz FSB),intel GMA 4500MHD upto 1308 MB DVMT
can you plz plz solve it
