It is not clear how can I unlock my WD external hard drive without risking my data.
Is it to possible to assist with a link that allows me to unlock my "WD My Book Essential" using Mac OS 10.6.8 laptop using USB ports

Come on...!
The link you are recommending indicates that the data on the hard disc will be completely wiped out (all data shall be lost) in the process.
This is exactly what I am trying to avoid.
Is there any other alternative?
