Question

I have Portable HDD of 500GB,
x:
the problem is when I click on X: Drive its shows
X:\ is not accessible
The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable"
and I have my very useful Data so I cant format it.
so please its a huge request please give some of Solution that works
and I have my very useful Data in it so I cant format my HDD. 

And I try the Try this 1
i open the 
Command Prompt
and type the 
chkdsk/f x:
 but the rply is this
The type of the file is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted
please please please help me TIA

I suggest a professional file recovery program from one of these vendors:

Check them out - and buy one that has the features you need. Be advised that downloading any program may destroy the very files you are attempting to recover. The best solution is to move the hard drive to another computer and do the recovery from that operating system.

Hi loudan, 

Have you tried checking the drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tool. It may give you some good information on what is going on with your drive. It really may be failing. If results from scans are not so good and you need the information on the drive, try using Linux Live CD. Sometimes it grants enough access to copy the data. Unfortunately things like that may happen. Do some backups of your important files to avoid such situations.
