Cant copy data from my external hard drive to laptop

Hello,
I cant copy data from my external hard drive to laptop.
Actualy I trying to transfer a big data about 220 GB.
When i am starting copy for the initial 2-3 sec it goes on gud speed about 30+mb/sec
Transfer speed then suddenly it goes down to 1or 2 mb/sec ,infact sometimes it shows
Kb/sec trasfer speed.
Why there is so much fluctuation when transfering data ?
Is there any ptoblem with my laptop hard drive or what ?

One thing you can do is to connect hard disk and then switch your laptop. Right click on the HD and disable the tick from check box next to read only. It can be one of the reasons.Try this

Hi there,

I would try with different USB cable. Check the drive on another PC. If the situation is the same, enter the drive manufacturer's web page and search for some recent driver updates.
Go to Device Manager, uninstall the device, restart the PC and plug the device back in. Check if there is any change.
