Hello,

I am finding troubling with using my external hard disk. All the folders in it are shown empty but the data is still present. It is showing 50 Gb free of 931 GB. Please help with a solution to retreive the files.

I tried the attrib command to show hidden files but I am getting response as

>>Unable to change attribute - D:foldername1
>>Unable to change attribute - D: foldername2
D: is my driver letter.

My laptop is WINDOWS 7 with NTFS filesystem
Hard disk Transcend with FAT32 filesystem.

Thanking you and waiting for a soon reply.

Hi Chith,

You have done a good job by using the Attrib command. It usually solves this kind of issues. I recommend you to open Command Prompt and use the chkdsk /f command. Moreover, try the device on another PC and with another USB cable. Does the drive appear correctly in Disk Management, with proper file format and drive letter?
Using a Linux Live CD may help you to recover your data. If you manage to do so, format the external drive and check if the issue persists.

Hope this helps
