Unfortunately my WD external hard drive was still attached whilst helping a friend to reset his windows 8 laptop to factory settings. It would appear to have reformatted and partitioned my external hard drive which now appears as 'recovery drive 31.9 GB, FAT 32.
My pc now only identifies this portion, and no longer shows the music and photo files which were previously stored, just a recovery drive for my friends laptop.
I have tried recuva without success, this only seems to pick up the reformatted recovery drive part.
'Get data back simple' recognised 931 GB which took almost a day to scan. I do not recognise, and do not know further what to do with the files and folders retrieved at the end ie nothing looks like my photos or music.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Many thanks

Hi Kanikatie,

What happened to your data is quite unfortunate. In general, you have done what I was going to suggest, but sadly, you can not be 100% sure that you will get your data back, even with a good software. Check the article below for some additional suggestions. If the data was really important, I suggest you to contact a Data Recovery Company.

Hope this helps
