My wd external 1 tb hard drive does not show...

hi.
my external hard drive does not show, i have tried all that i have read in the forums here. it is recognized by the pc (i am using windows xp) but the drive does not show. i also tried the WD quick formatter but it says that the external drive format failed. pls help...

Hi Eson,

I am sorry for the problems with your drive. Could you tell me the hard drive model? Please check if the drive is correctly recognized in Disk Management. It may be listed there, but without a drive letter. Try to assign one, right clicking on the drive. I strongly recommend you to check the drive on another PC and with another USB cable. Use Data Lifeguard Diagnostic to check drive's condition. I leave you a download link below. Do you have valuable information stored on the drive?

It would be really useful to check the drive with Data Lifeguard Diagnostic. I recommend you to do both tests (the short test and the extended one). Is the drive visible in Disk Management and does it have a drive letter?
