If new rumors are to be believed, a new, waterproof iPad Air is coming later this year.
The iPad Air 2 is expected to be the big release for Apple this year after the iPad Air was named the "Best Mobile Tablet" at MWC 2014 last week. Though Apple is not one to join the bandwagon, it appears that the Cupertino tech giant may be jumping on the waterproof craze that is taking over smartphones and tablets. Sony and Samsung have already showcased their waterproof flagship devices, Sony's Xperia line and Samsung's Galaxy S5 smartphone. With competitors launching waterproof devices, the suggestion that Apple may add waterproof technology to its next generation iPad Air is not too far-fetched. If rumors are accurate, the iPad Air 2 will have a fall 2014 release date. Apple is not expected to incorporate drastic changes in its next generation iPad Air.
While the iPad Air 2 is expected to be the big release for 2014, the iPad Pro may not get a 2014 launch. In order to emphasize its iPad Air 2, Apple may push the release of the iPad Pro to 2015. This information comes from KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the 12.9 inch iPad Pro will not launch this summer as was previously anticipated but in 2015. He added that there may not be a iPad Mini for 2014 due to revenue matters. "Compared with lower-margin iPad mini with Retina display, for which shipments have been tepid, higher-margin iPad Air was a hot selling item in 4Q13, which will slow Apple in developing new iPad mini models. We believe Apple plans to launch upgraded iPad Air early this year and will accelerate development of 12.9" iPad," said Kuo.
