On Wednesday, Sony revealed its highly anticipated Xperia Z5 alongside a new Z5 Compact and 4K Z5 Premium.
In its press event for IFA 2015, Sony announced not one, but three new smartphones joining the Xperia family. The flagship model - the Xperia Z5 - features Sony's signature Xperia design, favoring lines over curves. The Xperia Z5 packs Sony's newest large 1/2.3 Exmor RS 23 megapixel sensor and F2.0 G Lens which the company calls its "first completely re-imagined smartphone camera module since Xperia Z1" and features a 5.2 inch display. The Xperia Z5 Compact looks similar to its larger sibling but with a 4.6 inch display. Both the Z5 and Z5 Compact feature frosted glass finishing, capless USB charge port, a new integrated fingerprint scanner, and are powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 64 bit capabilities and 4G LTE speeds. The Xperia Z5 comes in White, Graphite Black, Gold and Green while the Z5 Compact offers colors like Yellow, Coral, White, and Graphite Black. The Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will launch globally from October 2015.
The high-end Sony phone - the Xperia Z5 Premium - will hit shelves in November 2015 in Gold, Chrome, or Black. Unlike its siblings, the Z5 Premium features a reflective, metallic back and is designed from the ground up as a high-performance device. The high-end smartphone features a 5.5 inch 4K Triluminos display, 32 GB of internal memory expandable up to 200 GB, and more. The Z5 Premium packs the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, cameras, and waterproof rating - IP65/68 - as the other Z5 smartphones. All three Xperia Z5 phones run Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. Pricing for the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, and Z5 Premium has not been announced at this time.
