Mark Zuckerberg's New Year's resolution is to engineer an AI to run his home and assist with his work.
Life has been rapidly changing during the past several months for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. With a new baby, new philanthropic arms of his company, and new internet services being launched worldwide, Zuckerberg has made his 2016 New Year's resolution both tech-related and with the potential to help him around the house. "My personal challenge for 2016," explained Zuckerberg in a Facebook post, "is to build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man." Along with household tasks, he states that he wants the AI to be integrated with VR technology to help him work.
"At Facebook, I spend a lot of time working with engineers to build things," continued Zuckerberg, "but it's a different kind of rewarding to build things yourself, so this year my personal challenge is to do that." This is not the first time Zuckerberg has considered creating an AI; his company has also been placing focus on creating an artificial intelligence for Facebook Messenger that would be able to communicate with and answer questions for users. But according to Zuckerberg, he wants to code his home's AI all himself, without the help of Facebook engineers. "This should be a fun intellectual challenge to code this for myself," he concluded. "I'm looking forward to sharing what I learn over the course of the year."
