New leaked screenshots show features like video, audio chat, and more might be coming to Snapchat.
Snapchat may be in for some significant changes, if new leaked screenshots discovered by Snapprefs developers are genuine. Snapprefs, an independent development organization geared towards maximizing Snapchat use, published screenshots of alleged Snapchat updates. The shots reveal live audio and video chat options, along with new emojis and stickers. The updated app also has a new interface and design. Some are already pointing to apps such as Line or Facebook Messenger as the potential inspiration (and competition) for these changes, which may elevate the messenger app to a new playing field.
Snapchat has experienced its own bumps in the road since its 2011 launch, but within the past year, the messaging app has seen some new life (and new investors). Last year, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba invested $200 million into Snapchat. With an update suggested by the leaked screenshots, the app may well be eyeing the likes of Facebook as its new competition, and the new features may open up a new world of user attraction. Aside from garnering more registered users, other rumors on the web suggest that Snapchat may also be considering in-app purchases for content like games and third-party apps, representing what could be another stream of revenue for the company. Currently, Snapchat has over 200 million registered users vs. Facebook's over 800 million (as of late last year).
