On Tuesday, Rachio announced the national release of its second-generation Smart Sprinkler Controller.
"We're excited to launch the Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller, Generation 2. Rachio already makes running your sprinklers easy and convenient while saving you water and money. Generation 2 makes it even easier and more affordable," said Rachio in a blog post on the device's launch. The Generation 1 controller can access local weather via WiFi and has been EPA and WaterSense certified as well as SWAT tested. According to Rachio, the first-generation controller can save over 50 percent of users' outdoor water use. The second-generation controller is boosted with requested features from Rachio's tens of thousands of users including a smaller, easier to install design; easier WiFi setup; manual control directly from the controller; additional sensor ports; improved diagnostics and troubleshooting; a new weatherproof outdoor enclosure option; and Amazon Echo support.
"We are also announcing our direct integration with Amazon's Alexa cloud-based voice service to allow for weather delay and zone control commands, simply by using their voice," said Rachio. "This is the first direct integration of a smart sprinkler with Alexa and complements our partnership with Amazon's IoT platform for simple and secure integration with the Alexa platform." Rachio also supports other connected home integrations including Nest, Xfinity, IFTTT, Nexia, Control4, iControl, Alarm.com, and more. The Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller, Generation 2 is available from today for $249.99 on Rachio's website, Amazon, and Home Depot. The outdoor enclosure is sold separately, for $29.99, and is available on Amazon and Rachio.com.
