In a surprising move, LG announced a new touch-enabled quick phone cover for its yet-to-be-unveiled LG G5.
"LG Electronics has introduced a new version of its Quick Cover case, designed specifically for LG's next-generation flagship smartphone, the LG G5, answering the age old question – what came first, the smartphone or the cover?" said LG in a press release on Thursday. The new phone cover "offers the advantages of previous Quick Covers" plus the addition of touch features. These touch options were introduced with the K10's Quick Cover View and is featured in the G5 Quick Cover's semitransparent mesh cover. With this new function, users can answer calls and control alarm settings without needing to open the case.
In its case announcement, LG even dropped some hints on the upcoming smartphone. "LG's signature "second screen" Always-on-Display, rumored to be a feature in the highly anticipated LG G5, allows users to check the time, date and notifications, all with the Quick Cover closed," said LG, all but confirming the feature. "Complementing the look and feel of the forthcoming LG G5, the new LG Quick Cover incorporates a unique film with a glossy metallic finish to enhance the smooth and luxurious look and feel of the cover." Other rumored specs on the upcoming LG G5 include an LCD display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and an overhauled camera design. LG will unveil the smartphone at its "LG G5 Day" event in Barcelona on February 21, the same day Samsung is announcing its new Galaxy devices.
