On Monday, Sony announced a new take on its Xperia brand with the new X series smartphones and connected devices.
"The Xperia X series embodies Sony Mobile's new brand vision through adding new layers of intelligent technology across popular and acclaimed Xperia features: camera, battery and design, to make every day smarter and simpler," said Sony on the unveiling of the new devices. Sony revealed three new smartphones at MWC: the Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance. All three devices feature a curved glass display, an impressive 2 day battery life, and will launch in summer 2016. The Xperia X series will come in four colors: white, graphite black, lime gold, and rose gold.
In addition to announcing three new Xperia smartphones, Sony announced some Xperia-branded peripherals. "The new Xperia smart products and concepts are designed to adapt to your situation and environment, whether at home or on-the-go. Sony Mobile envisions this new category as intelligent devices that understand preferences, activities and behaviour, to provide useful and contextual information," said Sony. These Xperia peripherals include the Xperia Ear, Eye, Projector, Agent, and RM-X7BT in-car Bluetooth commander. The Xperia Ear and RM-X7BT in-car Bluetooth commander are expected to roll out from summer 2016, but Sony did not reveal release dates for the other Xperia smart products as they are still in the concept phase. The Xperia Ear "provides you with useful information such as your schedule, weather and the latest news to keep you up-to-date on the go" and connects to Android devices via NFC or Bluetooth and a host application. The in-car Bluetooth accessory "enables wireless music streaming and uses Sony's voice technology to activate smartphone functions whilst driving."
