On Monday, Snapchat announced that users can now design and buy On-Demand Geofilters on its apps.
"Geofilters are one of our favorite parts of Snapchat. We've been blown away by the creativity of the Snapchat community, and we've loved watching the personality of each place emerge through your artwork. To date, almost half a million community Geofilters have been submitted, and every day, Snaps overlaid with Geofilters are viewed hundreds of millions of times!" said Snapchat in a blog post on the new paid feature. Community Geofilters were originally designed for public places, like university campuses, but now, users can pay to have a Geofilter for their own events. "On-Demand Geofilters let you create and publish a Geofilter for your party, wedding, business, or any other place or event," explained Snapchat. "It's a fun way to help your friends or customers decorate their Snaps, wherever they are!"
There are some restrictions to the new On-Demand Geofilters including the size of the event (in square feet) and the length of the event. The minimum size for these buyable filters is 5,000 square feet and the maximum is 5,000,000 square feet. In terms of time, the Geofilters start at 30 minutes and max out at 30 days. Pricing starts at $5 and depends on the size of the geofence and time period selected. To use the On-Demand Geofilters, users must design, map, and schedule their filter and submit it to Snapchat for approval. Snapchat says that it will have filters reviewed within one business day. On-Demand Geofilters are available now in the US, UK, and Canada, with more markets to follow.
