On Wednesday, Samsung announced a new color option for its smartphones: pink gold.
The new color option will initially launch in South Korea on April 20th, and will roll out to other markets soon. "Pink Gold was chosen as it, like the other colors available for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, is a natural color that provides a sense of comfort. These hues glitter and shimmer, as if illuminated from inside their glass surfaces," explained Samsung in a press release about the new color option. "In particular, the refined Pink Gold color scheme is intended to soothe and incorporate a touch of gentleness, radiance and sophistication to the smartphones' design." The Pink Gold variant joins the existing color options of Black Onyx, Gold Platinum, White Pearl, and Silver Titanium. It is unclear if the new Pink Gold Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices will be priced differently from the other color options, as Samsung did not reveal any pricing information in its press release.
Samsung deliberately chose to label the new color option "pink gold" rather than "rose gold" for its new smartphones, but the company has used the rose gold moniker in the past. Earlier this year, Samsung launched platinum and rose gold options for its Gear S2 Classic smartwatch. Unlike Apple's gold wearable, the gold and platinum Gear S2 smartwatches are available for $449.99 each. The standard stainless steel variant is priced at $349. The gold Apple Watch, meanwhile, is priced upwards of $10,000.
