On Friday, Garmin announced its latest wearable: a golf-specific activity tracker band called the Approach X40.
The new Garmin smartwatch features daily activity tracking including daily steps, calories burned, distance, time of day, hours of sleep, and move alerts to keep users active throughout the day. The Approach X40 also features Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, a 24/7 heart rate monitor without the need for bulky and uncomfortable chest straps. The wearable also includes smart notifications when paired with a compatible Android or iOS device. While the Approach X40 could benefit many types of athletes, it was designed with golfers in mind.
With this new smartwatch, Garmin hoped to combine its "golf technology and activity tracking into one sleek device." Dan Bartel, Garmin's Vice President of Worldwide Sales, said, "The Approach X40 is the perfect all-in-one solution for golfers who want to know distances on the course and track wellness data without the hassle of switching between multiple devices." In addition to the daily activity tracking features, the Approach X40 includes a sunlight readable screen, GPS, digital scorecard features, AutoShot, GreenView, and more. The golf-minded wearable comes pre-loaded with data for over 40,000 golf courses around the world. The Approach X40 can be paired seamlessly with the Garmin TruSwing golf club sensor to improve swing consistency. Users can check out the data collected in the Garmin Connect mobile app, available on Android and iOS. The Approach X40 will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2016, and will be available in black, white, and frost blue. The wearable will be priced at $249.99.
