(CCM) — At an event in China, Xiaomi announced its newest addition to its Redmi line, the Redmi 3s — an upgraded model of the Redmi 3, which was launched in early 2016. One big change that the company has made to its low cost series is the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner on the Redmi 3s; similar to its Redmi Note 3, the fingerprint scanner is placed on the backside of the Redmi 3s. The smartphone has a 5-inch HD display, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, packs a 13-megapixel main and 5-megapixel front camera, boasts 1080p video recording support, and comes with a powerful 4100 mAh battery. The dual SIM phone supports hybrid storage, meaning that the slot for the micro-SIM card can also be used to insert a microSD card. Available colors include silver, gold, and grey.
Two versions of the Redmi 3s are currently available to customers on Xiaomi's official site: the first with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of built-in memory and the second with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The basic version with 2 GB of RAM is priced at CNY 699 (roughly USD 104), while the higher storage version is priced at CNY 899 (roughly USD 134). So far, no information has been released regarding global availability of the smartphone.
